2018 Summer Fashion Trends: Love/Hate

When New York Fashion Week, Shanghai Fashion Week, Miami Fashion Week happen for the Spring/Summer season, most of us are left scratching our heads. We ask the same questions. Who decides that these are the trends, anyways? Who would REALLY wear that?

These are all valid questions. The trends for this Spring/Summer season left me more confused and more concerned than other fashion weeks have. Here’s a list of my favorite, and least favorite, fashion trends to emerge for this season (along with a guide for how to wear these in every day life)!

Crayola Colors – LOVE

I am LOVING all of the highly pigmented colors I’ve been seeing! Royal Blue, Fire Engine Red, Kelly Green, Canary Yellow..everyone looks so happy in all these bright colors!

Pastel Colors – LOVE

Pastel colors are always a lovely staple of Spring and Summer. They’re very cute and they add a delicate, feminine touch to any outfit.

Feathered Clothes – HATE

Feathers are too hot, too itchy, and not rain friendly. I was pretty turned off of this whole idea until Taylor Swift showed up to the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. To be honest, I think only Taylor pulled them of so well because it was a handmade custom Versace dress, and she looks like she came straight down from Heaven to grace us with her presence.

Here’s Taylor’s angelic look:

Puff Sleeves – LOVE

Puff sleeves would NOT usually be on my “Love” list, but they’re growing on me! It’s a bit of 80’s fashion made modern. There’s also specific attention to detail with these tops that allow you to wear them in the Summer and not get too hot!

Fringe – LOVE

Fringe has always been a go-to look for Spring and Summer. It transports us to the West and to a time where anytime is a good time to dance and show off that fringe!

Sports Clothes – HATE

Athletic wear and sporty styles are super cute – don’t get me wrong. However, I don’t think it’s asking too much for you to save your tracksuits for working out and running errands – don’t try to dress them up with a pair of heels and hoops.

Checkered/Plaid Print – LOVE

The checkered print is a bit of a throwback to 50’s and 60’s Iconic America – whereas the Plaid brings us up a few decades to “Grunge” styles. Either way, these are super cute and definitely put off a too-cool-for-school vibe.

Shorts Suits – HATE

Shorts with suit jackets can only be done right a couple of ways – and how the “high fashion” side of things chose to show this was the WRONG way. Men, please don’t do this unless you’re wearing a lightweight linen Summer blazer. Girls, please MATCH them!

Beach Clothes – LOVE

I love the beach clothes-as-dressy-apparel look! The dresses all look like gorgeous swim cover-ups and the coastal-printed jackets are perfect for Summer!

Wet Look Clothes – HATE

Plastic, rubber, pleather – all of these materials should be avoided during the Summer – unless you want to suffer from heat stroke.

Floral Dresses – LOVE

Would it even be Spring and Summer if we didn’t have floral dresses? The flowers are blooming, why shouldn’t you??

Transparent Rain Macs – HATE

TOO. HOT. Why would you subject yourself to this torture if it wasn’t raining and if you’re not trying to cut weight for a wrestling tournament?
